Kate will make a great ambassador for the Missing People Charity. She has worked tirelessly to raise the profile of her own missing daughter Madeleine and other missing children. Well done Kate we are proud of you xxx

I'm really pleased with this appointment. Kate knows how the families of missing people struggle to copy day in, day out. I agree whole-heartedly with this appointment.

I am glad Missing People chose Kate McCann as an ambassador. It prompted me to review the financial statements of Missing People Ltd., available online.

Perhaps other people will also want to analyse how donations are used by Missing People, (paying careful attention to the percentage spent on wages, salaries and benefits for employees.)

If Missing People had not appointed Kate, I would have never realised how similar they are financially to the 'Madeleine Fund' where millions of dollars have been spent on dodgy detectives (two of whom are now in jail) and other questionable ways.

Birds of a feather certainly DO flock together, it seems.

I am so angry that I want to say it again - how on earth has this woman evaded prosecution?

Her sole priority, since so carelessly losing her daughter whilst out boozing, has been to become a millionaire celebrity.

She didn't even bother to look for Madeleine the night she vanished. Why? - did she know there was no point?

How can this woman sleep at night?

Her first advice: leave kids alone as young as possible. Loosing one: don't panic, it's the start of your wider agenda. Then lean back and relax (she never sought anyway). Alles sal reg kom.

Has the world gone mad? - this woman is still a suspect in her own child`s disappearance and has pending court cases. It gives the impression she`s trying to manipulate the outcomes of these. The people that appointed her have obviously not done their homework. This could not be more wrong.

Why on earth would a charity choose Kate MccCann as ambassador, when she has admitted in her book that she repeatedly abandoned her kids to their fate and went out drinking and lost one child, even though supposedly Madeleine asked why the parents did not come to them when they were crying the night before the fateful night

She also details in her book that she deliberately did not assist the police with their enquiries [apparently using the mantra of repeating f-ing t*sser and not answering their questions ]

Surely
Kerry Grist-Needham would have been a better and less controversial ambassador

One thing is for sure, this decision was made at the top and, once again, it goes to show that those in any position of authority in this country - whether it is charity, banking, media, politics or whatever - have absolutely nothing but contempt for the general public. All they want is our money. They're not even truthful about the true number of missing people. The vastly exaggerated figures they're quoting are actually the number of people "reported" missing which is an entirely different matter. But who cares about the truth. As long as we hand over the cash, that's all that matters to these people.

Ambassador of the charity Missing People ??

Does this charity know what Neglect under UK law means ??

Failure to protect from physical and emotional harm or danger.

Failure to ensure adequate supervision including the use of adequate care-takers.

If this charity fail to understand that then theyfail to understand the whole concept of child care and parental responsibility.

The bottom line is that we must protect our children at all costs ~ and that includes when we are on holiday, regardless as to whether or not ‘ it felt safe’ & regular checks were done!

If Kate McCann had not left her children unsupervised nothing would have happened to Madeleine. She left those children alone intentionally, not accidentally. It is an utter disgrace that this person has been deemed fit to be an ambassador for missing people.

Someone at 'Missing People' has screwed up big style appointing Ms McCann, an appointment that will win them no friends.

Are they not aware of what they put their children through on that holiday, leaving them unattended in the evenings, allowing them to cry for over an hour (see Mrs Fenn's statement) and even when Madeleine asked 'Why didn't you come when we cried?', did not change their routine one iota.

It is fairly obvious that both Ms McCann and Missing People see the other party as necessary to further their respective agendas. Well, good luck with that - you're going to need it.

Poor Madeleine McCann.

Her parents won't tell the truth about what happened to her, but use her image to help cleanse their collective conscience.

Missing Children adopt her as their favourite poster child, though they can surely see something doesn't add up.

(If cadaver dogs had alerted to the clothing of the mother of any other of their missing children, would they so casually ignore the fact?)

And then along come the Outdoor Media Centre and Grand Visual, who see missing children as a perfect vehicle to demonstrate their ability to 'reach a mass audience again and again' and 'react in real time with relevant copy to a broadcast audience'.

Madeleine McCann, the perfect marketing vehicle for anyone who doesn't understand the value of human life.

I totally agree with all the previous comments. It is a disgrace that this charity has appointed Kate McCann their ambassador.

She would be far better employed answering the 48 questions and agreeing to a reconstruction.

I can't understand why everybody fawns upon these people. They left their three children, all under 4 years of age night after night alone in an unlocked apartment to get 'me time' with their
friends.

I am appalled.

Never will i give a penny to this charity while Kate Mccann is ambassador .Why in heavens sake are you condoning parents who left their children night after night to go drinking with their friends .Why are you giving the message to other parents that this is acceptable ? Why find missing people at all if they have parents like the Mccanns they are sinners not saints

The McCann case is a living proof that publicity doesn't bring back a missing child.
On the missing children topic the old principle is the simplest and the best : keep an eye on your children !
This is why the unfortunate Mrs McCann is an unexpected and counterproducti ve choice, though of course she could be in search of some kind of atonement.

Did Missing People choose Kate McCann simply because she has become quite well known? They said they had known the decision would be unpopular, but that she made 'an amazing ambassador for Missing People.' Amazing because they thought that with Kate McCann fronting this campaign, they'd get a lot of media attention? That's the only reason I can think of for choosing Kate McCann, someone who thought it was OK to leave three small children alone, night after night, in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country.

Why?JS
2012-07-10 19:54
Why is a self-admitted child neglector (three children under four alone in a foreign country whilst parents drinking) being allowed to have a platform like this?

If the child had not been left alone, the child would not be missing.

After the initial shock about an "ambassador" for a missing people Org. who did not run the streets in search for her own "missing" daughter, I sat back and had a good thinking.

Actually it fits perfectly. Golddiggers counting on the sympathy and goodwill of the uninformed don't go out to do any searching. Just fake some statistics, tell some lies, get some shady buddies promoting buttons for child safety - e voila, enough money for all of them.

Kate fits the Organisation perfectly...

Gosh! An ambassador for missing chidren?!!
Is this the prize for leaving England with 3 children and returning with 2?! By her and her husbands only responsibility; they left 3 very young chidren alone, AT LEAST! Or did they not?... She should be answering in Portugal the questions she didn't answer in the right time.

Kate Mccann admitted leaving 3 young children alone which is neglect. Anyone looking up the definition of child Abuse will clearly see Neglect mentioned! Presumably Missing Persons have a Child Protection Policy! Perhaps they need to read it! This appointment will severely damage the reputation and credibility of the Missing Persons charity.

I cannot understand how the Missing People charity thought Kate McCann was the most appropriate person to appoint as their ambassador. Especially since they posted on their Facebook page earlier today, that they knew this appointment would be controversial and cause a backlash. They certainly have not done the people they are supposed to be helping any good at all, going by the number of people who have said they will be withdrawing their financial support.

I wonder how the appointment came about. Was the position advertised or offered to other candidates? In fact, where there any other candidates?

Perhaps it is time to reconsider. It is not in the interests of the charity or those it purports to serve to continue with such a controversial choice. It certainly calls into question the judgement of whoever made the decision.

Kate McCann, a new Ambassador for Missing People, said:
"When your child goes missing you want the whole world to stop and join the search."

How can a child neglecting woman become an ambassador for missing children? A woman who left 3 small children alone night after night in an apartment in a foreign country, leading to the "disappearance" of one of the children. A woman who refused to answer police questions, a woman who has changed her story many times, a woman who preferred to go jet setting around the world rather than look for her child.
This is an absolute outrage and an insult to all parents of missing children.

Surely this has to be a joke, one in extremely bad taste, but a joke nevertheless. How on earth can you have a woman who left her three small children alone night after night in an apartment in a foreign country so that she could go wining and dining with her friends? This neglect led to the "disappearance" of her small daughter. What a disgraceful state of affairs when a charity for missing children takes on a child neglector as an ambassador, one who has made millions out of an unsuspecting public at that. What a disgrace.

There remains an archived case over the fate of Kate McCann's daughter. Her refusal to answer police questions and to attend a reconstruction, mean that she has declined the chance to clear her name. In fact, the evidence of cadaver odour on her pants suggests that Maddie died in her arms. Not the right time to make Mrs McCann ambassador for anything.

I am astounded at this appointment. Had Kate McCann shown some humility in her book and urged people not to leave young children unattended as she and her husband and friends did, I might just understand it. Instead we still hear about their behaviour being within the bounds of responsible parenting and the garbage about it was like eating in your back garden [ no garden I have ever seen lies outside a perimeter wall of a property].
Having seen the height of those steps from their apartment and the drop from the patio wall to ground level, with a chair right next to the wall, never mind abduction, the child could have died in a fall as a door leading directly into this are was left unlocked. 5 evenings in a row the children were left, even after Madeleine told her parents she had woken and been crying for them one evening.
It is my understanding of the legalities that your ambassador despite having her arguida status lifted has not been cleared of involvement in the disappearance of her daughter, for that to happen she would have to be eliminated from Portuguese police enquiries. That cannot happen until she answers the questions she declined to answer in 2007, and until she and her travelling companions agree to take part in a reconstruction of their movements on May 3, 2007.

It is beyond belief that Kate McCann has been given this role. I am absolutely furious.
All the police files are available to read online and they are extremely pertubing, to put it mildly.
All I know is that I would have been so petrified for my child's safety, I would have answered every question put to me by police in double quick time to maximise the speed of the investigation.
To imagine the coolness needed to answer "no comment" to 48 questions is mind-boggling.
It is all over the internet that this couple have been treated with kid gloves and the public know it. The question is: why?

I am horrified that Kate McCann has been given this role. Surely there are far more worthy candidates than this infamous parent who neglected her three tiny children, 5 nights in a row, resulting in a catastrophe for poor little Madeleine.

It's all so surreal. I think the world has gone completely mad!

I am genuinely sorry this lady has lost her child but is this a wise choice?
I feel the need to comment because I know that many people over the years (some of whom I know) have worked extremely hard for this cause. For Missing People to elect this lady to represent them when, by her own admission, she left her children alone at night on several occasions is, in my opinion, truly wrong.

It is quite unbelievable that a woman who left three little children, all under four years of age, alone night after night in an unlocked apartment (in a foreign country) should now be held up as an example representing mothers of missing children nationwide.

It is high time this woman cooperated with the Portuguese Police so that they can do a reconstruction of the McCann 'Timeline' (which they wrote up on a torn off cover of their missing daughter's sticker book).

April Fool's Day is late this year. This is a joke, right?

Kate McCann is still prime suspect in the disappearance of her daughter. The case was ONLY shelved because the McCanns & Tapas7 REFUSED to cooperate with the police investigation.

Kate McCann REFUSED to answer 48 questions, preferring to chant "F*****g t*ss*R to the investigating police officer instead.
